DeltaV is a conference that “redefines web performance”. It was held for the first time in London, and I was asked to give a talk about accessibility and web performance.
The title of my talk was “There’s more to performance than meets the eye”, and it looked at the intersection between screen readers and wed performance. Topics included:
- The symbiotic relationship between browsers and screen readers
- The way different browser process models change that relationship
- The difference out-of-process communication makes to web performance
The talk went on to look at the challenges browsers and screen readers face in achieving good web performance, and at some of the possible solutions:
- Dropping the virtual model used by Windows screen readers
- Improving the capability of platform accessibility APIs on all platforms
